A high-severity issue has occurred at the Power-On Self-Test (POST) phase which has resulted in the system BIOS to abruptly stop functioning.

I just updated the DELL R750 to the latest BIOS 1.6.5 from 1.5.5 and iDRAC 7.10.30.00 from 6.10.00.00. After reboot the server hangs on the Initializing Data Processing Unit

Initializing Data Processing Unit freeze

A high-severity issue has occurred at the Power-On Self-Test (POST) phase which has resulted in the system BIOS to abruptly stop functioning. Error message in iDRAC

Follow my steps to solve this issue:

  • Reboot server – did not work
  • Cold boot of server – did not work
  • Rollback BIOS to 1.5.5 – job failed
  • Rollback iDRAC to 6.10.0.0 – job failed
  • Go to the support DELL and insert your service tag of the server
    • try to find the latest iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller – 7.10.50.0
    • download – iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_CX8MF_WN64_7.10.50.00_A00.EXE
    • From the iDRAC go to the Maintenance Tab > System Update > Manual Update > Local and upload the downloaded package.
    • Run the iDRAC update click to the „Install“
    • Wait about the 5-10 minutes for the firmware update and reboot the iDRAC.
    • After iDRAC reboot, try to reboot the server.
    • NOW WORKING !
