DELL ME5024 – GUI Management is Inaccessible
The DELL ME5024 (powervault) storage array GUI is inaccessible for both controllers. The administrator unable to login to serial CLI session and unable to open SSH session to both management interface. This issue is caused by out of memory and leads to the management application processes being terminated. If you have firmware lower than ME5.1.2.0.1 you may encounter this problem.

The DELL ME5024 (powervault) storage array GUI is inaccessible for both controllers. The administrator unable to login to serial CLI session and unable to open SSH session to both management interface. This issue is caused by out of memory and leads to the management application processes being terminated. If you have firmware lower than ME5.1.2.0.1 you may encounter this problem. The IO works fine, only management is affected.

In my case i was not able to connect to storage array via CLI/SSH, so i had only one option. The customer ME5024 has dual controller with redundant path host configuration. Restarting the management controller does not impact production.
The scenario in my case:
- Hosts must have a connection path to controller A and B
- Hosts must have multipath support configured and enabled.
- All host initiators must be mapped to volumes.
The procedure:
- Physically pull controller module B forward in its slot by approximately 5 centimeters or approximately 2 inches, then reseat the controller module after 30 seconds.
- Allow approximately 2 or 3 minutes for controller B to complete boot and firmware load.
- Open an SSH session to the controller B management IP address and login as a managing or administrator level user.
- Restart peer storage controller A. Type the command: restart sc a
- In my case i cannot restart the controller A, so i physically pull controller module A for 30 seconds.
Upgrade firmware to ME5.1.2.0.1 or later, which fixed the „bug“ with out of memory problem. The latest firmware in this moment is ME5.1.2.0.2., A06
