VMware VCSA 6.5 – Update Manager had an unknown error when Scan for Updates

VMware VCSA 6.5 – Update Manager had an unknown error when Scan for Updates

few days ago i tried to scan 3 ESXi 6.5 host for new patch, but when i performed the „Scan“ i get eror message:

VMware vSphere Update Manager had an unknown error. Check the events and log lifes for details

Cound not scan host…“

I decided to try reinitialize VUM database… so follow these steps:

  1. Connect to the VCSA 6.5 via SSH – for example putty (don´t forget, that you need enable shell & ssh in VAMI)
  2. Stop the VUM Service: service-control –stop vmware-updatemgr
  3. Reset the VUM Database: /usr/lib/vmware-updatemgr/bin/updatemgr-util reset-db
  4. Delete VUM contents in patch store: rm -rf /storage/updatemgr/patch-store/*
  5. Start the VUM Service: service-control –start vmware-updatemgr
  6. Log off and Log in into vSphere Web Console and try SCAN 🙂
