Can’t extend a volume in Windows Server 2022
one of my customer, which running on the ESXi 7.0.3 and VM Windows Server 2022 with desktop experience and is getting low on disk space. So i resized a disk in the vCenter and like allways i went to the Disk Manager in VM, where i see the 15 GB extra space, but the option „extend“ was grayed out.
The resolution is very easy, we cannot resize the partition because the Windows has recovery partition. So we can move it or delete it, i choose the second option – delete it.
First of all, please make a SNAPSHOT of your VM, before you start operations with diskpart.
Assuming disk 0 and the standard three partitions on a clean install:
The above assumes that partition 4 is the recovery partition.
- diskpart
- list disk
- select disk 0
- list partition
- select partition 4
- delete partition override
and now i can extend volume 🙂
