Veeam – Job not using expired tapes in GFS pool

I have backup job using the GFS media pool with 26 slot changer. Some tapes are marked as „expired“ but job is in state „Waiting for tape“. This is the bug in Veeam. because veeam not using the „Expired“ tapes. Veeam needs „free“ tapes.

Fortunately we have a tweak:

– on the Veeam server please open the registry and change/add the following:
this is the destination: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\

TapeGfsExpiredMediumSharing

  • Type: REG_DWORD
  • Default value: 0
  • Description: when set to 1 expired tapes in GFS MediaPool are allowed to move between GFS MediaSets automatically and ignore media_set_type. Implemented in U4 Why is it not automatically using any of the tapes that have ‚expired‘ – that is what it’s supposed to do, right?
